SERVICE LIFE:
FILTRATION ELEMENT

When maintained per these instructions, the Airlock Filtration Element is expected to stay in service for three months of use. (Please refer to section 10, USE LIMITATIONS.) After the recommended three months of use, the level of protection diminishes and the Filtration Element should be replaced. (Please refer to section 8, ELEMENT REPLACEMENT.)

The Filtration Element should only be handled during the replacement process. Visual inspection of the Filtration Element will identify any defects, such as a tears, cuts, holes, or fraying. If defects are identified, do not use the respirator. Remove and replace the defective Filtration Element.

Do not use the respirator without the Filtration Element installed. Do not replace the Filtration Element with another material, or use the respirator with a damaged Filtration Element installed.

New Filtration Elements are available at: www.airlockpuretech.com/shop

CLEANING THE RESPIRATOR

WARNING: Do not remove the Filtration Element during cleaning. Washing a Filtration Element that has been removed from the fully assembled respirator could damage the Filtration Element and render it unusable. Do not wash the Filtration Element when it is not installed within the fully assembled respirator.

1. Cleaning is recommended after each use. Throughout the process, inspect the respirator to identify any damage. Look for holes, cracks, or tears as signs of damage. Replace damaged or worn parts as necessary.

New respirator parts are available at: www.airlockpuretech.com/shop

2. If there is concern that the respirator has been exposed to infectious agents, hazardous chemicals, or radiological agents, then it is recommended that nitrile or vinyl gloves be worn while washing the respirator.

3. The following are acceptable to use when cleaning the respirator: bar soap, liquid hand soap, body wash, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish detergent, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide. Do not use: cleaners containing lanolin or other oils, paint thinner, mineral spirits, acids, bases, toluene, or industrial solvents.

4. To wash the respirator, immerse it in warm soapy water, not to exceed 120°F (49°C), and rub with a soft sponge or cloth.

5. Rinse thoroughly with clean warm water.

6. Air-dry in a non-contaminated area. Do not store a wet respirator in an enclosed container.

Section 8

ELEMENT REPLACEMENT

When the respirator is worn daily, the Filtration Element should be replaced every three months. (Please refer to page 10, USE LIMITATIONS.)

Visual inspection of the respirator and its parts during disassembly will identify any defects, such as cracks, tears, cuts, or holes. If defects are identified, do not use the respirator and dispose of the defective parts immediately. The respirator should be inspected prior to each use.

Please refer to page 4, RESPIRATOR PARTS.

1. To replace the Filtration Element (2), disassemble the respirator by sliding the Sliding Lock Clips (6 and 7) toward the top of the respirator.

2. When both left and right Sliding Lock Clips (6 and 7) are free of the Sliding Lock Attachment Points (4 and 5), the Protective Cover (3) will come off.

3. With the Protective Cover (3) off, the Filtration Element (2) can be easily removed. Remove the Filtration Element (2).

4. At this point, we advise thoroughly cleaning all the parts, except the new Filtration Element (2), which should never be cleaned in isolation.

5. Once clean, carefully align the new Filtration Element (2) with the curved edges of the respirator, clamp the Protective Cover (3) over the replacement Filtration Element (2) and confirm the Filtration Element (2) is not clamped under the edges of the seal. If the Filtration Element (2) is clamped under the edges of the seal, repeat this step so that it fits within the edges of the Protective Cover (3).

6. To lock the Protective Cover (3) back into place, push the Sliding Lock Clips (6 and 7) onto the Sliding Lock Attachment Points (4 and 5), and slide them downward until they click into place.

New Filtration Elements are available at: www.airlockpuretech.com/shop

Section 9

STORAGE

Allow the respirator to thoroughly dry, away from contaminated areas, before storing in a closed container.

New, unused, properly stored, i.e., away from direct sunlight and at temperatures ranging from 50°F (10°C) to 41°F (50°C), Airlock General Use Respirators and Filtration Elements will last for 50 years and fully maintain their original effectiveness levels. When a new, unused, properly stored respirator or Filtration Element is put into use, its optimal effectiveness period would then begin. (Please refer to page 11, item seven.)

Section 10

USE LIMITATIONS

While most environments are perfectly suited for your new respirator, please note the following exceptions:

1. This respirator does not supply or concentrate oxygen. If you enter an atmosphere containing less than 19.5% oxygen, with or without the Airlock General Use Respirator, you will begin to suffer from oxygen deprivation.

2. This respirator was not designed to protect the wearer from atmospheres containing toxic gases, such as carbon monoxide.

3. Respirators provide protection from a wide range of airborne particulate matter. Additional protection may be needed for skin, eyes, or other areas.

4. Airlock General Use Respirator use recommendations should augment, and not supersede, any medical or other protocols dictated by employment, task, or location mandates.

5. This respirator is not designed to be used by small children unless it fits properly, as described in this User Instruction Manual, and is done under adult supervision.

6. Individuals with a compromised respiratory system, or who have respiratory conditions, such as asthma or emphysema, should consult a physician and complete a medical evaluation prior to use.

7. The level of protection provided by the Filtration Element diminishes after the recommended three months of use. Once put into use, the Filtration Element maintains optimal effectiveness for: 90 days when worn for eight hours per day, 30 days of non-stop wear, or 720 hours.

Section 11

PRECAUTIONS

1. To ensure respirator effectiveness, follow the instructions and guidance provided in this manual, and understand the use limitations.

2. Do not alter, abuse, or misuse this respirator. Never substitute, modify, add, or omit parts. Only use new Airlock Puretech replacement parts, as specified in this User Instruction Manual.

3. Inspect the respirator before each use to ensure that it is in good operating condition.

4. Examine all the respirator parts for signs of damage, including the Soft Silicon Face Seal, Protective Cover, Sliding Lock Attachment Points, Sliding Lock Clips, Head Strap Clips, and Head Strap.

5. To ensure an airtight seal, a seal check should be performed each time you wear the respirator by feeling for air leakage at the contact points of your face and the Soft Silicon Face Seal during exhalation, or, by covering the Protective Cover, with both hands or with another material that will momentarily obstruct air flow through the Protective Cover, to test an inhalation.

6. For those who wear a beard, extra care is advised to ensure that a snug fit is achieved. A clean-shaven face is ideal for a comfortable snug fit.

7. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after removing a respirator worn in environments with potentially harmful debris.

Section 12
